Parent Code of Conduct

Youth sports are supposed to be fun – for the children.  Unfortunately, many parents, fans, and coaches do not realize that their actions, whether verbal or non-verbal, intentional or unintentional, can have a lasting impression and emotional effect on the children.  Too many children are leaving youth sports because the fun of the game is being taken away by the adults.  Therefore, the Dighton Baseball & Softball League (DBSL) will require all parents, coaches and fans to abide by this simple Code of Conduct in order to reinforce what YOUTH SPORTS are truly about.

ü     I will encourage good sportsmanship at all time by setting a positive example for my child and the children around us.  I pledge to support all participants, including teammates, opponents, coaches, umpires, and spectators; and will refrain from ridicule of any person, player coach or umpire.

ü     I will demonstrate a positive attitude toward the game, not embarrassing myself, nor my child or child’s team by yelling or creating a scene.  I will applaud good effort by my child’s team or opponent regardless of victory or defeat.

ü     I will encourage my child to strive for betterment, and ensure my child is participating willingly and voluntarily and not because of my own personal wishes, wants or personal rewards.

ü     I will strive to learn the rules of the game, not for the purpose of confrontation, but to ensure good sportsmanship and support the officials in the enforcement of these rules.

ü     I will support the intent and goal of the DBSL, including skill development, emphasizing fundamentals, and building character through teamwork and encouraging fair play.

ü     I will support and communicate with the coaches, volunteers, and other parents, encouraging them to uphold this Code of Conduct.

ü     I understand that DBSL is not a babysitting service and requires the support and interaction of its parents.  I will offer my services as a volunteer to support the league, including concession stand support, field maintenance, fund raising, and/or other services I may be able to provide.

ü     I will demand a safe and healthy environment in which my child is to play, refraining from alcohol, drug and tobacco use while on the grounds of the DBSL Complex.  I will insist that others show the same restraint.

ü     I will monitor the game and practice venues for safety and notify a league representative of any unsafe conditions.  I will do my part to correct these conditions as quickly as possible.

ü     I will teach my child to respect other players and coaches regardless of their race, creed, gender, ability or disabilities.

ü     If I identify problems or have concerns, I will seek solutions calmly and at a proper time and location, refraining from confrontations in front of the children.

ü     I will strive to make participating in the DBSL fun, reminding myself that, this is why my child signed up in the first place.

Parents should contact the DBSL Player Agent with regards to any and all questions, concerns, or issues regarding this Code of Conduct.  The Player Agent is posted on the Board of Directors link on the Dighton Baseball & Softball League website at www.dightonsports.com
